Police responded to the area of Warm Springs Avenue and Bexley Trail regarding a vehicle that had just been stolen from Wild Thangz, located at 716 N 14th Street, at 10:54 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officer was told to look for a black and gold GMC Yukon with tinted windows and gold trim around the vehicle. He was also given the license plate number and a description of the suspect, later identified as 68-year-old Brent Ashley Marshall of Leesburg, the report said.

The officer was later approaching the intersection of Marsh Bend Trail and Warm Springs Avenue when he noticed a vehicle matching the given description traveling west on Warm Springs Avenue. He immediately made a U-turn and caught up to the vehicle near County Road 511 and Warm Springs Avenue, the report said.

After confirming the license plate, the officer conducted a felony traffic stop in the area of U.S. Highway 301 and Warm Springs Avenue. The officer remained on the inside of the front driver-side door until backup units arrived on scene, the report said.

Once backup was on scene and the officer gained an advantageous positioning to the vehicle, Marshall was given step-by-step instructions to make his way to law enforcement. He was then immediately detained, the report said.

The report noted that the victim was able to describe Marshall’s clothing to one of the officers, which matched what he was wearing at the time of the stop.

Marshall was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000. A hold has been put on his custody by Lake County.
