A Eustis man is accused of battering the mother of his child in a jealous rage after he found a used condom in his truck.
Santiago Santos Vazquez, 33, was charged with domestic battery after his arrest shortly after midnight Sept. 5. An officer responded to an undisclosed address in Eustis after receiving a report that Vasquez was pushing the female victim around and preventing her from sleeping, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.
The victim told the officer she was sleeping in her child’s bedroom when Vazquez came home to take her out to eat. She said he began knocking loudly on the child’s bedroom door, and she came out assuming he just wanted to talk. But when she stepped out, Vazquez went to their room and called her over, according to the report.
The victim said once they were in the bedroom, Vazquez started questioning her about a used condom he found in his truck. She argued back but eventually gave up, agreeing with everything he questioned her about, the report said.
To avoid arguing, the victim went to the living room chair and tried to lay her head on the dining room table. This infuriated Vazquez, who began pushing her and grabbing her arm while demanding a reason. After that, he pushed her on the bed, according to the report.
Vazquez initially said nothing physical occurred, but his version of what happened changed as the investigation continued. He said he came home at about 11:30 p.m. and he was going to take the victim out to eat. That was when he noticed a used condom in the passenger side of his truck, the report said.
Vazquez said when he questioned the victim about it, she began to lie but then ended up telling him the truth. He admitted to grabbing her and demanding the truth while she ignored him. He continued to grab her and finally let go after he was made aware that law enforcement was coming, according to the report.
Vazquez was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
