A Lakeland man with a Mexican ID card but no driver’s license was arrested after being stopped for speeding in Lake County.

At around 1:25 a.m. Friday, an officer observed a gray Nissan passenger car traveling north on State Road 19 near East Revels Road at a high speed. The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Diego Cruz Hernandez, was found to be going 73 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Howey-in-the-Hills Police Department.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and spoke with Hernandez, who handed over his Mexican ID card. A computer search revealed that Hernandez did not have a license, nor was he ever issued one, the report said.

As a result, Hernandez was arrested on a charge of driving without a valid driver’s license (never had one). He was also given a speeding ticket. Hernandez was taken to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
