A Fruitland Park man wanted on a warrant was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
An officer responded to a call for service regarding an unrelated battery complaint near South Lone Oak Drive and West Main Street around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.Â
While in the area, the officer observed a man matching the description the Leesburg Communication Center provided. This was later identified as 50-year-old Jeffery Alan Howell, the report said.Â
During the investigation, the center informed officers that Howell had an active Lake County warrant for simple battery (domestic). A search following his arrest revealed a small clear plastic baggie containing a clear crystal rock-like substance in the front right pocket of Howell’s jeans. It tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine and weighed less than one gram packaged, the report said.Â
Howell was subsequently charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $7,500.Â
