A Leesburg K-9 officer and his dog aided a Lake County deputy in his arrest of a Wildwood man found to be in possession of drugs.
The deputy had been patrolling west bound on State Road 44 on Saturday morning when he clocked a green car traveling 80 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. The deputy stopped the car, driven by 38-year-old Jeremy Joseph Pinkerton, near the intersection of West Main Street and South Street.
While the deputy was writing tickets, another deputy arrived on the scene and spoke with Pinkerton. He asked Pinkerton if he had anything illegal in his car. Pinkerton said he did not. When Pinkerton said no the deputy asked if he could search the car. Pinkerton refused the request. The deputy contacted the Leesburg Police Department and requested assistance from the departments K-9 team. The K-9 officer arrived at the traffic stop and his dog alerted on the car. Pinkerton was ordered out of his car.
The deputies searched the car and found a clear crystal-like substance which field tested as methamphetamine.
Pinkerton was placed under arrest and was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was booked on the charge of possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $2,000, which he posted the next day.
