A Leesburg man was arrested after failing to come to a complete stop at an intersection of Palm Way and Plumosa Drive in Leesburg. A Lake County sheriff’s deputy saw 57-year-old Edward James Jr. fail to stop at stop sign a little after 1 a.m. Saturday.
When the deputy stopped James he asked for permission to search his car. James agreed to the search. As he got out of his car he spontaneously uttered that he put a box in his vehicle that contained items he used to consume narcotics, according to the arrest report.
During the search the deputy found a clear crystal like substance which field tested as methamphetamine, a Carisoprodol pill which is a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia .
James was booked at the Lake County Jail for two possessions of controlled substance charges and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $5,000 on those charges. James had previously been put on probation for possession of methamphetamine and this arrest resulted on a no bond hold on James for the probation violation.
