A Leesburg man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after he was involved in a traffic accident.
Russell Fish, 23, was involved in a sideswipe traffic accident on March 22 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 48, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
The officer investigating the accident noticed that Fish seemed to be under the influence when he talked to him. Another Leesburg officer on the scene met with Fish and noted his slurred speech and balance issue. Lake EMS was contacted as Fish kept nodding off. The officer noted in his arrest report that Fish had difficulty keeping his eyes open and responding to the medical personnel.
When the officer requested that Fish do field sobriety exercises he refused and he told the officer he had nothing to drink nor had he taken any drugs.
Fish was placed under arrest on a charge of driving under the influence. He provided two breath samples at the Leesburg Police Department which yielded results of .038 and .034 blood alcohol content. Fish refused to give a urine sample for testing.
A records check showed Fish had been convicted of DUI in New Hampshire in 2019.
He was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $4,000.
