Student found with semi-automatic handgun in bookbag at Leesburg High School

A student was arrested after a semi-automatic handgun was discovered in his bookbag at Leesburg High School.

Jamonte J’Quan Chambliss, 18, of Ocala, was detained at about 8:45 a.m. Friday at the high school on Yellow Jacket Way after a school resource officer received a tip that Chambliss was in possession of a weapon.

A search of Chambliss’ Nike bag led to the discovery of a stainless steel and teal CPX-2 9mm semi-automatic handgun, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The firearm had a magazine inserted. The magazine held 11 rounds and there was one round already in the chamber of the gun.

Chambliss was arrested on two felony weapons offenses and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $4,000.
