Renovations will make Leesburg City Hall bathrooms ADA compliant

Leesburg’s City Hall will soon have renovated restrooms on all three floors of the government center.

Commissioners on Monday approved a $124,633 agreement with Boulevard Contractors Corp. for the renovation of all of the public restrooms in the three-story building. The renovations will include a new layout, partitions, plumbing fixtures, lighting, flooring and painting.

The restrooms are utilized by visitors to City Hall, residents doing business with the city and employees. The renovations will include removing and replacing partitions and fixtures to bring the restrooms into compliance with the American Disabilities Act, a memo from Purchasing Manager Mike Thornton and Public Works Director DC Maudlin says.

During the construction, Boulevard Contractors Corp. will be required to maintain access to existing walkways, corridors and adjacent occupied spaces. The contractor will provide signs indicating the restrooms are closed and direct people to floors with working facilities. One men’s and women’s restroom will remain open at all times, the memo says.

Boulevard Contractors Corp., which is located in Winter Springs, offered the lowest bid among six companies seeking to do the work. The other companies were:

  • Blackwater Construction Services, Gainesville ($170,412);
  • Advanced Commercial Contractors, Eustis ($174,506);
  • C&C Elite Construction, St. Cloud ($176,140);
  • K&A Construction and Consulting, Mount Dora ($199,652); and
  • Brodway Contracting, Kissimmee ($326,500).

The city’s current budget includes $119,354 for the project. The other $5,279 will come from savings on another project to renovate restrooms in Venetian Gardens.
