Body believed to be homeless man found in parking lot of Leesburg minimart

A body believed to be that of a homeless man was found in front of a Leesburg minimart on Tuesday night.

The body of man who was believed to be homeless was found early Tuesday night outside the Fast Stop Superette, located at 3702 Picciola Rd., in Leesburg.

Leesburg Police officers received a call for help shortly before 7:30 p.m. They responded to the Fast Stop Superette, located at 3702 Picciola Rd., and when they arrived, they found the body in front of the minimart. The woods behind the store, which was recently the scene of a pursuit of a suspected car thief from Lady Lake, is a well-known area for homeless camps.

Police were alerted to the situation by a Leesburg resident and the owner of the minimart. The victim, who had last been seen Tuesday around 6:25 p.m., had 12 photographs, a backpack, a Mastercard and a prescription drug, a Leesburg Police report says.

Several Leesburg residents who live off Picciola Road reported seeing the incident Tuesday night. Some reported seeing police cars, ambulances and crime tape around the body. And others said it was definitely a man who was found lying face down in the minimart parking lot.
