Maxie Slater Hackney, 75, of Tavares, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in the presence of her beloved husband.

Maxie was born on May 17, 1947 to Edward and Bethel Slater in Williamson, West Virginia. After graduating from Belfry High School (Kentucky) in 1965, Eddie and Maxie were married on May 27, 1966. After her first son was born, she dedicated her life to being a faithful wife and loving mother. She later worked as a receptionist for Dr. Susan Glenn Caddell as well as the First Baptist Church of Tavares. Maxie was passionate about the study and teaching of Scripture, playing card games with family and friends, and opening up her home in warm hospitality. We will miss her greatly.

Maxie was predeceased by her father, Ed Slater, and her brother, Freddie Slater. She is survived by her mother, Bethel Slater, her husband of 57 years, Eddie Hackney, oldest son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Audrey Hackney, youngest son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jenny Hackney, and their children, Hannah Edwards (Bobby Edwards), Elizabeth Hackney, Sam Hackney, Ainsley Hackney, and Julianna Hackney. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
