Nancy Sue Thompson, 85, of Tavares, FL passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 23, 2023. She was born in Harlan, KY on March 31, 1937, to George H. and Callie (Oliver) Thompson.Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in law George R. and Edna Thompson.

She is survived by nephew Rick Thompson (Cherie) and nieces Donna Welch (Allen) and Mary Thomson (Stephen) and three grandnephews and two grandnieces.

Nancy graduated with a BA from Transylvania College, Lexington, KY, and with an MA from Indiana University where she also studied at the doctorial level. She taught both French and German at the high school and university levels. She was a source of inspiration and a mentor to her students during her teaching career which began at Riverside-Brookfield H.S. in Chicago followed by Dixie Hollins H.S. in St. Petersburg, FL. She then moved to Orlando, FL to teach at the college level at Florida Technological University (now UCF) when it opened in 1968 before moving to Valencia College in Orlando, FL where she finished her teaching career.

Nancy enjoyed traveling to Europe most summers while teaching and naturally gravitated toward France and Germany to improve her speaking skills in those languages.

She will be missed by those whose lives she touched, especially her friends made at church as well as her family.
