A suspect with a lengthy criminal history was arrested after stabbing a man on Main Street in Leesburg.

Leesburg officers were dispatched at about 3 p.m.  Thursday to the 1200 block of West Main Street when a 911 call was received regarding a stabbing at that location. Officers made contact with the victim who was suffering from a stab wound on the top left side of his rib cage according to the arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The victim was in considerable pain and was being treated by EMS before he was airlifted to a trauma hospital.

A witness told the officers that the victim got into an argument with 61-year-old Baxter Marc Rishell who was still at the crime scene. The witness said that Rishell pulled out a green pocket knife and “poked”the victim in the side of his chest. He then told the police that Rishell had thrown the knife to the side of the building where the stabbing occurred. The police recovered the knife and noted in the arrest report that the knife had fresh blood on the blade.

When officers made contact with Rishell they found him to be heavily intoxicated.

Rishell was booked at the Leesburg Police Station on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.

The Philadelphia native has been arrested 21 times in the last two years  for trespass and battery offenses.
