A Leesburg man is accused of resisting arrest after being pulled over in Fruitland Park for driving with a suspended license.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, a Fruitland Park police officer observed a red vehicle driving south on Picciola Road and ran a computer search on the license tag that showed the registered owner’s driver’s license was suspended. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, who was identified as 41-year-old Scott Allen Ward, of 1305 Sunshine Ave., according to the police report.
The officer recognized Ward from prior contacts and knew he did not have a valid license. The officer asked Ward why he was driving without a license and Ward said he was just driving down the road. The officer replied that there should be no excuses for him driving because he didn’t have a valid license, the report said.
At that point, Ward got out of the vehicle and refused to follow the officer’s order to sit back down. After being placed in handcuffs, Ward refused to follow instructions and started pulling away. He wouldn’t stop resisting and yelled for officers to just take him to jail, according to the report.
A search of Ward’s driving history showed his most recent suspension was on May 2 for failing to pay a traffic fine. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and resisting an officer without violence.  Ward is being held in the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond and will appear in Lake County Court on June 17.
