Ruby Brathwaite, at the age of 95, Went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2022 at University of Florida Leesburg Health, Leesburg, Florida surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born on June 1, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to her parents David Samuel Wills and Elizabeth Olga Peters.

Her Parents passed away shortly after her birth and she left New York in 1927, sailing on the SS Maravel as an infant. She grew up in Cane Grove, Guyana. Her Father’s sister, Esther Roberts, raised her and her siblings. She returned to New York on July 10th, 1966. Ruby married Oscar Jeffrey Brathwaite in August 1971 and was devoted to her husband, raising her daughter, Penelope and working as a Nurse’s Aide at Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn, New York where she was born.

Ruby originally moved to Florida in 1990 from Brooklyn, New York to West Palm Beach and then moved to Kissimmee in 2002 and then to Leesburg in 2013. She was of the Episcopal faith and had been very active in the choir at Grace Episcopal Church in West Palm Beach, Florida.

She is survived by her loving daughter: Penelope Hintzen and her husband Cleveland of Leesburg, FL; three grandchildren: Shermece Hughley and her husband Lamonte of Duluth, GA, William Hintzen of Clermont, FL and Cleveland David Hintzen, Jr. and his wife Maria of Kissimmee, FL; three great grandchildren: Deja Hintzen, Jaden Hintzen and Khloe Hughley; She leaves behind a nephew, countless nieces, and great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sons: Chetwin Matthew Mortimer Wills and Cosmo Ian Terrance Willis, her loving husband, Oscar Jeffrey Brathwaite, who passed away in 1986, a sister, Dorothy Williams and brother, Samuel Wills.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00AM at Page-Theus Funeral Home Chapel, Leesburg, Florida with visitation held prior to the funeral service from 9:00AM to 11:00AM at the funeral home in Leesburg with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, Florida.
