Sophie Magnuson passed away December 18, 2020 in Leesburg, FL at the age of 97. She was born in Manhattan, New York City and moved to Leesburg, FL in 1946 after her husband, Lloyd, got out of the Navy during WWII. Lloyd died in 1973. Sophie worked at Carver Middle School for 28 years, starting as an aide and then worked in the office. She retired in 1998 at the age of 74.
Sophie was a member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church since it was built. She enjoyed going to plays at the Melon Patch Theatre, going out to eat, reading, and watching TV soaps and movies. In her younger years, she spent many hours watching and carpooling her grandchildren.
Sophie is survived by her sister: Eleanor Daley of South Carolina; daughters: Christy (Harry) Mantor of Leesburg, Susan (Bill) Norton of Flagler Beach; son: Steve (Kathy) Magnuson of Lady Lake; 8 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her younger daughter Karen (Roger) Danesky, who passed away in Leesburg in 2014.
