16-year-old arrested after Leesburg High School student critically injured in fight

A 16-year-old Leesburg High School student was arrested Monday in connection with a “huge” fight that left another student with severe injuries.

A Leesburg Police officer who serves as the school’s resource officer was contacted by an assistance principal Friday after the fight broke out shortly after noon. The student who was arrested, Theodore Lamar McNealy Jr., wasn’t identified until a video of the incident surfaced after school hours.

On Friday night, the victim in the fight was diagnosed with a fractured skull and a brain bleed and was transferred from UF Health Leesburg Hospital to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. No further information about him was available Tuesday.

The video of the fight was located on social media by an assistant principal a few hours after the incident. It showed the victim on the ground and McNealy on top of him allegedly hitting him with a closed fist. The video also showed McNealy getting off the victim and kicking him in the head, a Leesburg Police report states.

McNealy, who lives in the 1500 block of Crest Avenue in Leesburg, was taken into custody shortly before 5 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Bentley Road and Mills Street. He was charged with aggravated battery and disrupting/interfering with a school function, the report says.
