A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested for theft after concealing a can of alcohol in his jacket at Dollar General.
Officers responded to Dollar General, located at 610 N Palmetto St., regarding a theft around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. A manager advised that 40-year-old Michael Ivan Dubberly stole some things and left the store on foot.

The manager described how Dubberly came into the store and picked up a $3.95 can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the alcohol cooler. He stashed it in his jacket, refusing to acknowledge the manager as he left without paying. He then tossed the can into a bush and took off his jacket, the report said.
A subsequent check of his criminal history revealed he had five prior convictions for theft, the report said.
Dubberly was arrested on charge of felony retail theft (two or more prior thefts). He was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
The Colorado native was also arrested in May 2025 for sleeping on the floor of a Leesburg laundromat and in April 2024 for staring at a woman through her window.
