A deputy responded to an undisclosed Webster residence regarding a suspicious male, later identified as 38-year-old Michael Ivan Dubberly, walking through the complainant’s yard at 6:26 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the complainant who stated that she observed a man wearing a black jacket, black pants and an orange article on his person walking through both her yard and her neighbor’s yard east of her. He was looking into her window while she was getting ready in her house, the report said.

Both the complainant and her husband then went outside, and the man stood directly in front of their address staring at them. The man walked away toward a church and stood by a tree, still staring at her. He left only after she told him that she was calling the cops, the report said.

The deputy proceeded to look for the suspect at the Linden Church of God, located at 4309 County Road 772. He began hearing sticks breaking and looked over toward a wood line to see Dubberly trying to conceal himself in a thicket of weeds, the report said.

As the deputy started walking toward Dubberly, he began walking toward another wood line, stopping to stare at a tree. The deputy asked what he was doing, and he stated that he was trying to find Leesburg. Due to the allegation of him going through yards and his unusual demeanor, the deputy detained him, the report said.

Dubberly was unable to dispel the deputy’s alarm during questioning that he may have or was about to commit a crime. It was apparent that he was at multiple locations in a time and manner not usual for law-abiding individuals, the report said.

As a result, Dubberly was arrested for loitering. He was transported to Sumter County Jail with bond set at $150.
