John Riley O’Steen

John Riley O’Steen, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 3, 2024. Born in Orlando, Florida on March 18, 1950, John’s journey led him to Leesburg, Florida at the age of two, where he later graduated from Leesburg High School in 1968 and Florida State University in 1975.

John loved being outdoors and cherished the freedom of his work as a self-employed carpenter and found joy nurturing plants and flowers of every variety. He took delight in watching NASCAR Racing, sports, and bird watching from his front porch, but his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren play at the park, treasured moments that filled his heart with joy.

Described as one of the kindest and most generous souls, John’s compassion left an indelible mark on the lives of those he held dear. His enduring love, steadfast guidance, and unwavering strength shaped the lives of his family, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and profound impact.

John was preceded in death by his father, James (Dan) O’Steen, and his mother, Charlotte Beasley O’Steen. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Jane Nielsen O’Steen of Leesburg, his daughter Erin (Ryan) Lewin of Fruitland Park, and his grandchildren Jack and Brooks Lewin.

A celebration of John’s life will be held for family and friends on Friday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. at his daughter’s home located at 1834 Forest Glen Drive, Fruitland Park, FL 34731.
