An officer responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Upon arrival, he made contact with the female victim.

The victim advised that at about 5:40 p.m., her sister, 51-year-old Cathy Elaine Cox, asked her if she could use her vehicle. She told Cox that she was not allowed to use the vehicle because she did not have a valid driver’s license. Cox then grabbed the vehicle keys and left the area in the vehicle, the report said.

The vehicle was described as a black 2008 Saturn Vue. There was a small “Publix” sticker on the rear window. A check of its tag later confirmed the victim as the single registered owner, and a stolen vehicle entry form was completed, the report said.

When the officer spoke to the victim at the scene, several other LPD officers tried to find the vehicle but were unsuccessful. A probable cause affidavit was completed and placed with the LPD Communications Center until Cox could be found, the report said.

Cox was ultimately arrested around 10:35 p.m. at her home, located at 723 Perkins St. She was charged with theft vehicle (passenger car/SUV/minivan) and transported to Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,500.
