Janice (Jan) Stephens Roney of Leesburg FL passed away at home on January 20, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born July 29, 1936, in Gibson County (Cool Springs Community) Tennessee.

Daughter of the late Richard Morris Stephens and Gertie Glover Stephens of Trimble TN. She is survived by her daughter Janice Denise Roney (Leesburg FL), sister Sue Carolyn Seekamp (Janesville WI), and aunt Lucille Glover King (Dyer TN). Also survived by two sisters-in-laws, multiple nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Upon graduating from high school Jan went to business school in Memphis TN. Once she completed business school, Jan started a career of working in the U.S. Civil Service with the Army and Navy for 32 years. From July 1971 until November 1996, she worked at the Service School Command located at the Orlando FL Naval Training Center. Jan retired from civil service in 1996 when the Naval Training Center closed.

Jan battled cancer four times, off and on for over 23 years with a recurrence of ovarian cancer finally winning the battle. She was strong in spirit and faith, and battled cancer each time with an inner strength that was remarkable, she was an inspiration to many during her battles.

Jan was a stoic, strong, compassionate, genteel and loving woman, a wonderful friend to many (several lifelong), a loving sister and a wonderful mother. She loved reading, various crafts, working sudoku & circle word puzzles, bird watching, exercising on her Pilates machine, and doing yoga. Jan also loved her cats; they gave her great love and comfort over the years. Especially during her various battles with cancer their comfort during those hard times was a blessing.

Jan’s faith was strong, she was a member of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church (Orlando FL) for many years prior to moving to Kernersville NC and attending First Presbyterian Church.

A thank you to Cornerstone Hospice for all the care provided to Jan.
