A TIME TO BEGIN: Gayle Ann Lucas was born on December 13th, 1952 in East Cleveland, Ohio to Edward Steven Lucas and Helen Marie Krasneski.

A TIME TO LEARN: Gayle was a graduate of Riverside High School in Painesville, Ohio in 1971, Kent State University in 1977, and The University of Central Florida in 1989.

A TIME TO LOVE: Gayle was married on May 26th, 1979 to William Stewart Custer, her loving husband of 44 years. They were blessed with three wonderful sons.

A TIME TO TEACH: In addition to raising three sons, Gayle spent her 28-year career teaching 1st grade at Treadway Elementary School in Leesburg, Florida, helping many hundreds of young minds learn to read, write and do math just a couple miles from home.

A TIME TO GO: On the evening of November 29th, 2023, at 11:45 pm, Gayle peacefully embarked on her next great adventure, surrounded by the boundless love of her family. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared.

A TIME TO BE HONORED: Gayle Ann Lucas Custer will be remembered for her dedication, and the enduring love she showered upon her family and students. As we bid her farewell, let us cherish the memories of a life well-lived and a heart that touched the lives of many. May she find eternal peace in the arms of the great beyond. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 11:00 AM at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W. Main St, Leesburg, FL 34748. The family will beginning receiving friends at 10:00 AM.

LEFT TO CHERISH HER MEMORY ARE: Her husband, Bill of Leesburg; their 3 sons, William Forest Custer II of Brooklyn, NY, and his wife Jeannette; Jason Lucas Custer of Edmund, Oklahoma, and his wife Liz and three children Ryan Elizabeth 9, Jack Mowrey 6, and Luke Henry 3; Kevin Edward Custer of Leesburg, and his daughter Grace Sloan Custer 5; her brother Allen Lucas of Stone Mountain, GA; her brother Edward Lucas of Great Barrington, MA, and his wife Linda; her sister Kathy Wilson of McComb, MI, and her husband Thomas; her sister Janis Shaffer of Kennett Square, PA, and her husband Patrick; her brother Thomas Lucas of Perry, OH, and his wife Nancy; her sister Laurie Hill of Colorado Springs, Co; and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Preceding her in death were her sister Marjorie Frisbee, of Madison, OH; and her brother Donald Lucas of Saukville, WI.
