A homeless sex offender in Leesburg was arrested for failing to comply with the sexual offender registration after being released from prison earlier this month.

Michael Wayne McCall, 61, was convicted for two counts of lewd lascivious acts child under 16 and sexual battery by adult victim under 12 in March 1992. He was recently released from Lake County Jail on Oct. 12 after failing to report vacating a residence within 48 hours.

McCall provided an address of 2110 Citrus Boulevard in Leesburg at the time. Upon his release, a new address verification was sent out to confirm his permanent address. A deputy tried to make contact with McCall but discovered he had been evicted from his apartment in June. The address verification was sent back to the Sexual Offender Squad to investigate, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation revealed that McCall had not updated his address on his driver’s license, either. The detective spoke with a witness that advised McCall would visit the Circle K on 2476 Citrus Blvd, and he attempted to call McCall’s last known cell number. However, it was no longer in service, the report said.

On Wednesday, two detectives located McCall at the Walmart on 2501 Citrus Blvd. They told him to report to the Sexual Offender Predator Registration Office with his change of address and phone number as well as to update his license lest he be arrested. McCall advised he would do so, but as of the end of the next day, he had not, the report said.

The detective later found a new, unreported phone number on a registration that McCall provided the Sleep Inn motel on 2476 Citrus Blvd. He slept in the motel for three nights and failed to report this information as he is required, the report said.

On Friday morning, the detective called and spoke to McCall. He stated he was responding to the registration office on 28129 County Road 561 in Tavares, where he was arrested, the report said.

McCall was charged for failure to comply with the sexual offender registration, including failed to report address within 48 hours, to report cellular phone within 48 hours, to report temporary address and to change ID within 48 hours. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
