teve French, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend was born June 6, 1957 and departed from this world on August 28, 2023. Born in Miami, Florida, he was raised by his loving parents, Norma and Robert French, alongside his younger sister Brenda. Steve’s journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, a passion for hunting and fishing, and a spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Steve spent his formative years growing up in Central Florida, following in his father’s footsteps, becoming a highly skilled plasterer. Steve’s resourceful nature even led him to try his hand at farming in Ohio. However, it was in the world of masonry that he found his calling, becoming a highly successful masonry specialist known for his high expectations, strong work ethic and attention to detail. Steve was bold and disciplined, strong willed and unapologetically did things “Steve’s way.”
Steve met the love of his life, Kerry, through their shared interest in horses. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, raising three wonderful children, Cliff (Sarah) French, Natalie (Dan) Lucas, and Brett (Carlin) French, who would go on to become successful adults, each graduating from college and starting their own beautiful families.
Steve’s devotion to his family was unparalleled. He fully supported Kerry as she pursued higher education to create a brighter future for their family. His commitment to providing for his loved ones knew no bounds, ensuring they had everything they needed to thrive. After his kids grew up, you would often find him enjoying camping and fishing in Crystal River, hunting in Kentucky or sitting on the front porch of his Georgia cabin.
One of Steve’s greatest joys in life was becoming a doting grandfather (“PawPaw”) to five precious granddaughters: Payton, Harper, Kennedy, Finley, and Taylor. He made sure to send each of them a customized birthday card, often the first to arrive in the mail, filled with love and well wishes.
Throughout his life, Steve had several passions, including his love for firearms and military history, which led him to become a skilled gunsmith and an avid collector of historical and modern guns. He was a true patriot and a fervent supporter of the military and the second amendment.
In retirement, Steve continued to excel, building a successful real estate portfolio. He was an ardent fan of the Florida Gators, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Braves, and he cherished the simple moments spent with Kerry watching television and admiring the birds perched outside their window.
Steve’s generosity and thoughtfulness knew no bounds. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He had many friends who loved talking to him regularly. He was a great storyteller and had an infectious sense of humor with a glowing smile and thunderous laugh that would fill the room.
Steve was a devoted son who helped his parents relocate to Central Florida and watched over them with boundless love. He adored Christmas, often starting to listen to Christmas music in September, and looked forward to annual hunting trips with his sons and Tyler, Sarah’s brother.
In accordance with his wishes, Steve will be laid to rest in the rolling hills of Kentucky, next to his grandmother who held a special place in his heart. In lieu of flowers, he asked for those interested to please consider making a donation in his name to the NRA.
Steve left us far too soon, but his legacy of love and determination will endure forever. He would want us to remember the importance of family, loving one another and cherishing the time we have together. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, let us honor his memory by carrying forward the values and love he shared with us all and remember him for doing it “his way”…
