A Clermont man was arrested after he reportedly tried to steal his girlfriend’s phone to look for signs of cheating and then hit her in he face when she tried to call 911.

Randy Vickram Sewsanker, 35, was charged with domestic battery and deprivation of the use of 911 (domestic) after the Aug. 22 incident at an undisclosed residence, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department.

Prior to his arrival, the responding officer was informed the female victim was struck in the face but had separated herself from Sewsanker. Once at the residence, the officer found both parties outside the front door and separated them to question them individually, the report said.

Sewsanker told the officer he and the victim were having a difficult time lately because he suspected she was cheating. He said that’s why he grabbed the victim’s phone and started looking through it for evidence, according to the report.

Sewsanker said he was in the process of sending himself some pictures and text messages. He admitted to grabbing the victim by the arms to take her phone, but he said nothing else physical happened, the report said.

The victim told the officer that Sewsankar came upstairs to the bedroom where she was sleeping, woke her up and grabbed her phone before locking himself in another room. She said she subsequently went downstairs and used his phone to call 911, according to the report.

The victim said Sewsanker struck her in the face and grabbed his phone away from her while she was speaking with law enforcement, cutting the connection before she could finish. She said she was able to quickly grab her own phone. At some point during the ensuing altercation, Sewsankar had the victim pinned down. The only way the victim felt she could get away was by grabbing his beard and pulling as hard as she could, the report said.

While defending herself, the victim left marks on Sewsankar, who had a small amount of blood on his beard and a bruise on his lip. The victim had some swelling on her right eye by her cheek, according to the report.

Based on the statements and evidence, Sewsankar was placed under arrest. The New York native was taken to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bond.
