Aldena Rebecca Clifford

Aldena Rebecca Clifford was born in the District of Patty Hill, Hanover, Jamaica. She was the sixth child born to Ernest and Margaret Croll. She was the last matriarch of the Croll clan. As a youth, Aldena had a desire to go to America to “live the American Dream.” She valued education and strove to explore all opportunities. She arrived in Maryland in 1955 after being sponsored by her uncle, the late Rev. David H. Croll.

After her arrival, she attended Cortez Peters Business School where she met and eventually married the dashing, Willie Clifford. The couple married in 1957. She graduated with a two-year diploma and certificate of Superior Merits. Aldena worked as a secretary in numerous agencies. While working and raising a family, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Coppin State College after 3 ½ years. In order to improve her communication skills and develop more confidence, she became a Competent Toastmaster. Aldena retired from the Department of Defense’s Central Clearance Facility after 18 years where she served as a Senior Adjudication Supervisor.

In August 1999, Aldena and Willie, moved to Royal Highlands located in Leesburg, Florida. While there she participated in water aerobics 3 times a week, took painting classes, joined the Garden club, was a member of the Red Hats and sang in the Royal Highlands Chorus. Her talents resulted in her producing magnificent paintings and becoming a Master Gardener. She and Willie were members of St. Matthias Episcopal Church where she participated in the Women’s Bible Study, was a member of the choir and knitted and crocheted prayer shawls.

Aldena is survived by her Sister Verner Lindo, her beautiful daughters: Charmian, Sandra, and Rhonda; Grandchildren: Robert, Tiffany, Jasmine, Mason, Frances, and Rebecca; Great grandchildren: Jonas, Maddox, Maddison, Gideon, Masako, and Judah and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
