A man recently released after five months in jail for domestic battery is back behind bars for violating a restraining order.

Police responded to disturbance at a residence in Leesburg on Monday afternoon and spoke with the female victim, who was sitting in the living room with 21-year-old Kareim Amir Jabar Kamau. The victim originally refused to cooperate with law enforcement but eventually spoke with an officer, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Another officer spoke with Kamau, who said he only knew the victim through her cousin. It was later learned that Kamau and the victim have a child in common, and further investigation revealed Kamau was violating a restraining order forcing him to stay away from the victim’s residence, property, school, or place of employment, the report said.

Lake County Jail records show Kamau was arrested Feb. 8 for domestic battery, theft, and criminal mischief. He was released from jail on July 6. Kamau has two prior arrests in 2020 for burglary and theft charges.

Kamau was charged with violation of a domestic violence injunction. He’s being held without bond and will appear in court on Aug. 22.
