A Leesburg man was arrested Wednesday after trying to rob one bank and then succeeding in robbing a second bank.

Duwane Edward Gilmore, 35, tried to rob the SeaCoast Bank in Altamonte Springs about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. When Seminole County Sheriff’s deputies arrived they met with a teller who said that a man, later identified as Gilmore had come into the bank and handed the teller an envelope and demanded $10,000. As Gilmore made the demand he reached into his waistband. The teller told the deputies that it looked like Gilmore was reaching for a gun so the teller ducked down and hit the panic button. Gilmore fled the bank empty handed.

At 2:40 p.m. the deputies were dispatched to the Bank of America branch in Sanford. Victims at that bank told the deputies that a man had come into the bank and used the same technique as at the first bank but added the teller not to push any buttons or do anything stupid. He then said “Give me the Fu**ing money according to the arrest report. The teller gave him $3,410 and he left the bank.

The deputies went to the Publix grocery store located near the Bank of America branch and were able to view a security video which showed a Gilmore parking a ford Escape in the Publix parking lot and then walking to the bank of America branch. The video showed him running back to the car and driving away. A security video showed the license plate number. Deputies located the Ford Escape at a local Microtel Inn and Suites and observed Gilmore exit the motel. He was taken into custody and was charged with grand theft, robbery without a firearm and attempted robbery without a fire arm. A records check revealed he had been arrested in 2014 for two bank robberies using the same strategy. He is being held with no bond set.
