A Leesburg man was arrested after an alleged altercation triggered his girlfriend’s asthma attack, prompting a trip to the hospital.
Sean Lee Mahaney, 51, is facing a charge of battery following his arrest in Wildwood by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.
The woman said that on Wednesday she and Mahaney had been arguing so she decided to sleep in her car. She woke up when Mahaney was banging on the car’s windows and began releasing the air from her car’s tires. She threatened to call 911.
When deputies responded to the home, she said that two days earlier Mahaney, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 225 pounds, grabbed her by her hands and held her down against her will during an argument. She said it triggered an asthma attack so severe she had to go to the hospital. She showed deputies a laceration on her knuckle and a swollen wrist, both suffered in the attack.
Mahaney claimed the woman suffered the injuries when she fell in the bathroom.
The woman’s daughter confirmed her mother had been attacked by Mahaney. She said it was something that has happened, “multiple times in the past.”
Mahaney was taken into custody on a charge of battery. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,500 bond.
