A Leesburg man with a stolen gun was was tasered after a traffic stop for erratic driving.

A Leesburg police officer saw a black Chevy SUV driving at a high rate of speed Monday afternoon and swerving from its lane of travel southbound on Tuskegee Street, according to the arrest report. The officer was able to track the SUV to a residence in the 2200 block of Waitman Avenue where the driver, 22-year-old Kiereon Daishaun Black, had parked the vehicle.

As the officer approached the SUV, Black exited the vehicle and walked around the front to the passenger side door. When the officer asked Black for his driver’s license, he said it was in the vehicle and opened the passenger door to retrieve the license. The officer saw several rounds of ammunition in the center console in plain view. When asked if there was a gun in the SUV, Black said there was a pistol in the backseat area. Black also admitted to having a loaded 9mm Ruger pistol which had eight rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. A search of Black was conducted and a bag containing 17.4 grams of marijuana was found on his person. Black was told to sit in a nearby lawn chair while the officer secured the Ruger in his patrol car. Another officer who had responded to the scene watched Black while the other officer searched the vehicle. The search revealed a .45-caliber Glock pistol loaded with 11 rounds with another round in the chamber.

The officer was informed by the Leesburg Communication Center that the Ruger pistol had been reported stolen out of Date City. When Black was told to stand up and put his hands behind him so that he could be handcuffed, he broke away from the officers and began to run away. As the officer chased Black, he used his taser to fire to probes, which stuck in Black’s arm. Black fell to the ground and began to get up. The officer used a stun gun to subdue Black, who was then handcuffed.

As the officers completed the search of the SUV, they found 36 grams of marijuana under the driver’s seat, 1.4 grams of THC wax, a digital scale, and a box of clean baggies in the front seat area. A bag containing 4.2 grams of crack cocaine was found under the front bumper of the SUV. Black was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, theft of a firearm, concealing a weapon during a felony, drug charges and resisting arrest.

After processing at the Leesburg Police Department, Black was transported to the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $14,000 bond.

Black has been arrested for having a gun in his car at a Leesburg bank in 2021.
