A Leesburg man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after sipping Cognac out of a McDonald’s cup while driving a pickup.
A police officer was on patrol near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and Newell Road when he saw a silver Chevy Silverado driving erratically, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
When the pickup almost caused an accident when it made a lane change the officer put on his emergency lights and pulled over the Silverado. The driver, 45-year-old Willie Lee Brown had a plastic McDonald’s cup in his vehicle’s cup holder which appeared to contain an alcoholic beverage. The officer also noted an odor of alcohol as Brown spoke with him. Brown admitted to drinking some Cognac earlier that evening.
A check of Brown’s criminal history revealed that Brown was wanted on a Lee County warrant alleging that he committed an armed burglary, domestic battery, criminal mischief, possession of a cocaine with intent to sell, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and simple battery. Brown was placed under arrest and was taken to the Leesburg Police Department where he gave two breath samples which indicated his alcohol blood level was .071 and .075.
Brown was transported to the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $59,000 bond.
