A Eustis woman was arrested for driving under the influence after admitting to driving home drunk from Kalua Beach Bar in Tavares.

Police observed a black Mazda traveling northbound on South Grove Street at about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.

The driver, 44-year-old Tamara Ann Grezlik, made a quick right turn onto East Woodward Avenue, causing her to strike the curb and leave a large gash in the driver’s side tire. The vehicle stopped while still on top of the curb as the officer passed by it. Grezlik then drove off the curb and stopped on the side of the road, the report said.

Due to this strange behavior and the possibility of a medical issue, the officer quickly turned around and stepped out to help Grezlik. She got out of the driver’s seat and began to walk away from the vehicle, the report said.

The officer asked Grezlik if she was okay or needed EMS, but she stated she was fine. She also told the officer she was heading home from Tavares. While they spoke, the officer could smell the odor of alcohol on her breath. As he explained his concern about the alcohol, Grezlik replied, “of course, I went to Tavares.”

Grezlik was then asked if she was willing to perform field sobriety exercises, to which she agreed. Another officer arrived on scene to assist as the exercises began.

Throughout the investigation and during the exercises, the officers had to keep Grezlik from falling because she was unable to stand by herself. Due to this and her performance during the exercises, the officers concluded she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Grezlik was subsequently arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail. She provided two breath samples while there, which resulted in readings of .234 and .235 blood alcohol content.

At that point, Grezlik wanted to speak with the police. She advised that she was at the Kalua Beach Bar located at 181 South Joanna Avenue around 4 p.m. that evening. She drank a “Rum Punch” but did not know how much she drank or when she stopped drinking.

As a result, the Michigan native was charged with DUI. She was released from the Lake County Jail after posting $1,000 bond.
