
The arrest of a Leesburg drug offender for a probation violation led to a new charge.
Leesburg police officers were searching for 37-year-old Lazaro Gomez who was wanted for a probation violation. Gomez had been on probation for a 2020 possession of methamphetamine sentence. When he failed to comply with the terms of his probation a warrant for his arrest was issued. On Thursday morning, the officers received a tip that Gomez maybe at his father’s house on Hill Street in Leesburg.
The officers made contact with Gomez’s father who told them that he was the owner of the residence and that they would find his son who was in a back bedroom. The officers placed Gomez under arrest and searched him prior to placing him in their patrol vehicle. They found that Gomez had 2 grams of cocaine in his left jacket pocket.
Gomez was charged with the probation violation and a new charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $2,000.
