Leesburg police arrested a man at the Lee Motel after a 911 caller reported seeing him in the parking lot waving a gun.
When the officers arrived at the motel parking lot Monday morning, they found 38-year-old Miguel Angel Viruet.
He told police he had been in the bathroom when he heard what sounded like someone coming into his room, so he grabbed a pistol and went outside. He said that the gun was in his room and gave the police permission to enter the room where they found a .45-caliber Hi-Point pistol and a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol laying on the bed. Both guns were loaded and had rounds in the chamber. The officer noted that several rounds of ammunition were in the room and on top of a ammo box was a baggie containing a white powder which field tested as being the controlled substance MDMA.
The witness who made the 911 call told the police that she had looked out the window and saw Viruet standing beside his car waving a black gun. She took cover and phoned law enforcement.
Viruet was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, improper exhibition of a weapon and displaying a weapon while committing a felony. Viruet was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $7,000 bond.
