Marie Brown Booth, 85, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on June 23, 2022.
A third-generation Floridian, Marie was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. She was the middle child of Mary and James Brown, along with older brother James Brown and younger sister Rebecca (Brown) Morley. Marie moved to Leesburg in 1963 to marry her sweetheart, Judge John W. Booth, and they were known to throw great “tea parties”!
Marie had many names: Sarge, Fummer, Honey, Grandmom, Aunt Ree, friend, mom, but whatever you called her, everyone knew her as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was a phenomenal cook and loved the years she spent chairing the Kountry Kitchen at the St. James Bazaar. Marie was an avid gardener who waged an eternal war against the squirrels in her garden. She loved to read and was also a puzzle aficionado. In her younger years, she was quite the dancer and won several jitterbug contests.
Marie will be greatly missed by her daughters, Rebecca (Wylie) Hill of Leesburg, Florida, and Suzanne Booth of Atlanta, Georgia, and four grandchildren John, Matthew, Nash, and Andrew, as well as her many “adopted grandchildren” and close friends. There will be a private family service at their beloved lake house in Melrose. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. James Memorial Fund, Leesburg, Florida.
