A Webster man stopped for speeding in Leesburg is accused of giving a phony name to the officer who pulled him over.
Darvis Rashad Dorsey, 30, was arrested Saturday and charged with giving a false ID to law enforcement and knowingly driving with a suspended or revoked license. Lake County Jail records show Dorsey was also arrested eight days earlier, on May 20, for failure to appear in court on charges of driving with a suspended license and not having his motor vehicle registration.
At around 3:07 p.m. Saturday, a Leesburg police officer observed a Toyota traveling east on U.S. Hwy. 441 near College Road and estimated it was traveling above the posted 45-mph speed limit. Radar showed the vehicle was traveling 62 mph, so a traffic stop was initiated and Dorsey pulled into the Cracker Barrel at 9450 U.S. Hwy. 441. The driver – later identified as Dorsey – said he did not have his license with him, according to the police report.
Dorsey first told the officer his name was Stanley J. Young and he was born on June 11, 1989. After that name came back with no record found, Dorsey provided the same name and two other birth dates. He finally admitted his correct name and birth date and was positively identified using his photo in the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID). A records search showed Dorsey’s license was suspended indefinitely in January and canceled indefinitely in February, the report said.
Dorsey was given a written warning for speeding and placed under arrest for driving without a license and providing a false name. He was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was released Sunday on $1,500 bond. Dorsey will appear in Lake County Court on June 15.
