Linda Mobley and Jennifer Ganley were the Lake County recipients, while Connie Mahan and Pat Hayes were the honorees from Sumter County. They were recognized Friday at the United Way’s second annual Hometown Hero Hoedown. All four winners have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to public service in our community.

Announcing the winners were Sean Parks and Craig Estep, chairmen of the Lake and Sumter County Commissions, respectively. They were joined onstage by UWLS CEO Monica Wofford and Pam Jones from Congressman Daniel Webster’s office.

Groveland Police Chief Shawn Ramsey became the second recipient of the UWLS Star of Service Award, which highlights a veteran or first responder who has provided exceptional public service to our community. Ramsey’s award was announced by Wofford and UWLS board chair Dr. Laura Board, alongside Groveland Mayor Evelyn Wilson.

While announcing 37 nominees, awarding four winners, and announcing the Star of Service recipient, the United Way of Lake and Sumter counties was proud to share that the organization raised over $40,000 from sponsors and individual donors during the event. These funds will be used to fund programs dedicated to the enrichment of income, education, and health for those in the greatest need in our communities, along with serving our veteran population.

Individuals looking to give directly can visit UWLS online.
