A Leesburg man was arrested after an unprescribed controlled substance was found in an ibuprofen bottle in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Eustis last week.
Robert Patrick Wilburth, 33, of 2008 Vine St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance (amphetamine). He was pulled over at 5:17 p.m. Thursday in Eustis Square, 264 Ardice Ave., after a Eustis police officer saw both taillights emitting a bright white light that indicated they were broken, according to the police report.
Wilburth said he just got his truck back from being repaired and had just stopped at a friend’s house. Wilburth showed signs of nervousness and his hands were shaking constantly. He did not give consent for a vehicle search and said he did not have a medical marijuana card or use hemp. A K9 unit arrived at the scene and the dog gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics, the report said.
While searching the vehicle, the officer found in the glove box a pill bottle labeled “ibuprofen.” The pill contained five orange oval pills with marked 20 on one side and b973 on the other. A drug database search identified the pills as 973 2 0 (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine 20 mg), according to the report.
After being placed in handcuffs and read his Miranda warning, Wilburth told the officer there was Adderall in the ibuprofen bottle in the glove box. He said he had a prescription for Adderall but was unable to provide any documentation for it. Officers found two other bottles in the vehicle with Wilburth’s name on them. Asked why the Adderall wasn’t in a prescription bottle, he said he didn’t have any extra bottles with his name on them to store the Adderall but again said he had a prescription for the drug, the report said.
Wilburth was placed under arrest and taken to the Eustis Police Department for processing. He was later lodged in the Lake County Jail, where he was released later that night on $2,000 bond. Wilburth is due to appear in Lake County Court at 8 a.m. May 4.
