Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter is celebrating the completion of four new homes built through its partnership with area high schools.
Vocational students from Leesburg, South Lake, Eustis, and the Villages Charter high schools helped construct the homes as part of Habitat’s Youth Construction Academy, a program designed to provide experiential learning and introduce students to the field of construction. Students graduate the program with valuable experience and the opportunity for internships and employment.
Construction of each home started at the start of the fall semester last year and continued through April. Recipients for the homes were selected through Habitat’s Home Ownership program.
Dedication ceremonies for the homes are scheduled for:
- April 27 – Leesburg (Leesburg High School, Holiday family)
- April 29 – Wildwood (The Villages Charter School, Thomas family)
- May 6 – Eustis (Eustis High School, Cepero family)
- May 13 – Mascotte (South Lake High School, Hernandez family)
