A surveillance video led to the arrest of a Leesburg man for a robbery that occurred last November.

The victim of the robbery was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Truelieve cannabis store, where he arrived for work, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. A man on a bicycle pulled up to the car and told the man he needed $50 for rent. The victim told the man he did not have $50 and at that point the man put his hand in his pocket like he had a gun and demanded all of his money. The victim gave him all of his money, which was about $30.

A Leesburg detective had some difficulty contacting local Trulieve management, as his calls to the store were automatically transferred to out-of-state corporate offices. When he was finally able to contact the local store manager, the detective was told that there was a security video and that the manager would get the loss prevention department to email him a copy of it. When the detective received the video on March 4, he was unable to open the video as it required propriety software. On March 7, he received a call from an employee at the Truelieve store that had been able to view the video and that she knew the suspect by his last name of “McCoy.” The employee also told the detective that she went to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and viewed a mugshot of Keith McCoy.

When the detective was able to view the video he was able to confirm that 50-year-old Keith McCoy, was the man in the video, according to the police report.

The detective obtained an arrest warrant and McCoy was taken into custody early Thursday evening.

McCoy was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of robbery, possession of drug equipment and trespassing. His bond was set $22,000.
