A Leesburg man with a long criminal history has been arrested for dealing in stolen property after a woman tracked down her stolen e-bike.
The woman on Feb. 18 reported the bike had been stolen. She contacted the Leesburg Police Department on Wednesday and informed dispatch that she had seen her bike in the driveway of a residence located in the 500 block of Lee Street. She described her Hyper electric bike as black-and-yellow with the name “Raven” inscribed with a permanent marker on the battery pack.
When the officer went to the Lee Street address, he saw the bike positioned upside down and partially dissembled.
The officer made contact with the resident, 25-year-old Jeffrey Donald Sweeney, who claimed the bike was his and that it had been dropped off at his house by a friend. Sweeney later changed his story and said he got the bike from someone named “Bobby” who was a “big player in stolen property,” according to the arrest report.
Sweeney was arrested on a charge of dealing in stolen property. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond.
Sweeney had been arrested in September after an alleged attack on his girlfriend. He has been booked on 10 other occasions at the Lake County Jail.
