An ex-girlfriend has been arrested in the theft of a Leesburg man’s $15,000 necklace.

The gold lion head chain vanished from his home in July while he was hospitalized. When he returned home from the hospital on July 5 he got into an argument with his girlfriend, 20-year-old Shanejha Atterberry, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Leesburg Police Department. He got some of his possessions together and moved out of the residence that day. His mother retrieved the rest of his possessions a few days later and put them in storage.

On Aug. 10, he noticed his gold lion head necklace valued at $15,000 was missing. His ex-girlfriend denied knowing what happened to the necklace. Two weeks later a friend told him that he had seen the necklace at Value Pawn in Leesburg. The man confirmed that the necklace was his and contacted the Leesburg Police Department. The police were able to confirm that the pawn shop records showed that Atterberry had pawned the necklace July 6 and had received $2,000.

Atterberry turned herself in Wednesday on charges of dealing in stolen property and providing false information to a pawn broker. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $10,000 bond.
