Ten more local residents have succumbed to COVID-19 as the deadly virus claimed 126 more lives across the Sunshine State.
Eight of the latest fatalities were residents of Lake County and the other two lived in Marion County. They are among the 1,757 tri-county area deaths, the 33,756 in Florida and the 547,812 deaths across the country.
All told, Florida is reporting 2,033,179 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 5,750 from Thursday to Friday. Of those, 1,995,548 are residents. A total of 82,780 COVID-19 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 31,512 in correctional facilities. Across the state, there have been 33,756 deaths and 84,406 people have been hospitalized.
Locally, Lake County is reporting 26,354 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 56 in a 24-hour period. There have been 600 deaths and 1,402 people have been hospitalized.
Leesburg is now reporting 4,012 cases – an overnight increase of eight. Others have been identified in Clermont (6,925), Eustis (2,326), Mount Dora (1,970), Tavares (1,877), Groveland (1,780), Lady Lake (1,595), Minneola (766), Sorrento (762), Fruitland Park (734), Umatilla (682), Mascotte (516), Grand Island (337), Montverde (321), Astatula (206), Howey-in-the-Hills (196), Altoona (189), The Villages (177), Paisley (130), Astor (102), Yalaha (78), Okahumpka (52), Mount Plymouth (12) and Ferndale (9).
