A man was arrested Thursday night on a multitude of charges after running from Leesburg Police officers.
The officers initiated a traffic stop shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ross Street and Sumter Street. The vehicle’s driver, 39-year-old Roger Dale Sands, fled on foot and managed to climb to the roof of a nearby residence before being taken into custody a short time later.
Sands, a laborer who does tree work and lives in the 100 block of N 15th St. in Leesburg, was transported to the Lake County Jail and charged with vehicle theft, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, display/use of a concealed firearm during a felony and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $40,000 bond and is due in court Dec. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Sands also was arrested in 2014 by Fruitland Park Police officers after being accused of trying to walk out of Wal-Mart with a pair of stolen shoes on his feet.
