A water main break forced traffic traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg to slow down Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place near the driveway to Key Scales Ford, located at 1719 Citrus Blvd. (U.S. Hwy. 441). Water rushing onto the roadway at one point forced the closure of the outside right lane. But it was reopened by late afternoon, with water puddled on the shoulder as a crew, stationed behind a line of large orange cones, worked to resolve the issue.
The Leesburg Police Department posted a traffic alert on its Facebook page around 1 p.m. warning motorists of the closed lane and encouraging drivers to use the center or inside/left lane when traveling through the area. Leesburg Fire Rescue followed suit an hour later with the same post on its Facebook page.
It was unclear Wednesday afternoon what caused the water main break. And it wasn’t known if businesses or residents in the surrounding areas would be issued boil water notices.
