Jon Scott Leavers, age 71, peacefully passed away at Cornerstone Hospice on March 21, 2024.
He was born on March 10, 1953, in Canton, Ohio, to Dorothy and John Leavers. He grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, and graduated from Stranahan High School. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Florida. He taught elementary school for many years in Lake County, Florida, specializing in children with learning disabilities.
He loved teaching and was loved by his students, and made a difference in many young lives. Jon was a member of the local chapter of the Florida Trail Association. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and sharing them with friends and neighbors. He also loved growing plants for the Lake County Master Gardeners spring plant sales.
Jon enjoyed spending time with his friends bicycling, kayaking and hiking around Central Florida. He had a passion for books and owned hundreds of them. Jon had a wonderful sense of humor and always had people laughing. He will be greatly missed by his many friends. He is survived by his sister, Cathy Leavers.
A memorial service will be held on May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center, in Wildwood.
