Motorcyclist suffers fatal injuries in crash in Leesburg

A 65-year-old Tavares motorcyclist has died as the result of a crash in Leesburg.

William Clough of Tavares was riding a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at about 5 p.m. Saturday at U.S. Hwy. 441 and Tomato Hill Road in Leesburg when he was hit by a 2020 Honda Fit driven by 88-year-old Bettyrose Knittle of Fruitland Park, who was exiting a RaceTrac convenience store, according to the Leesburg Police Department. Clough had been southbound on U.S. Hwy. 441.

He suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital where he later died from his injuries.  

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for approximately three hours.
