Leesburg nurse who diverted Percocet, Morphine relinquishes license

A nurse who placed orders for medications that she never administered to patients has voluntarily relinquished her license.

Renee Michelle Jackson voluntarily relinquished her license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida last year, according to a final order issued on Jan. 8 by the Florida Department of Health Board of Nursing.

Jackson was accused of diverting narcotic medications while working as a nurse at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital, which is located at 600 E Dixie Avenue in Leesburg.

According to an investigative report filed through the DOH, on August 11, 2023, Jackson allegedly placed telephone orders for narcotics from two separate attending physicians on three different patients ranging in age from 55 to 87 years old.

Through an internal investigation, hospital staff determined that the doctors had not ordered and the patients had not received any of the medications that Jackson had requested.

“The patients never complained of pain from medication not received,” reads a statement from the investigative report, which was filed days after the incident in August.

The report goes on to indicate that two of the three patients had “Percocet ordered for them,” and also received “Morphine.”

“At the conclusion of the internal investigation, Jackson was terminated and UF Health Leesburg concluded that the medications were diverted,” reads the report.

The report goes on to state that Jackson was “impaired” and was “unable to practice with reasonable skill and safety.”

Records show that Jackson signed the voluntary relinquishment of her license on Sept. 5, 2023. A public meeting was held on Dec. 7, 2023 in Bonita Springs to consider the relinquishment.
