Catherine Suzanne Montgomery, 89, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on January 1, 2024.

“Sue” as she was known to friends and family, was born June 30, 1934 to Norel T. and Helene Allen McLaughlin in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1952. She attended Western College and married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Robb” Bruce Montgomery on January 21, 1956. A lifelong learner, she earned a B.A. in Philosophy in 2005. An accomplished soprano, she sang for community choirs and with the churches that she attended throughout her life. She was an author of historical fiction short stories set in the period of steam paddlewheel boats, featuring her favorite, the Belle Of Louisville. She loved her husband and her large family, treasuring time with them and also reveling in their life journeys and milestones. A life-long Christian, she prioritized her faith and modeled her life with values of grace and service to others. She and Robb moved to Mid-Florida Lakes, Leesburg, Florida, in 1995 from Charleston, Illinois.

She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Cann of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, Ann Murphy of Leesburg, Florida, Elizabeth Hand of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and three sons, Robert B. Montgomery, II of Berlin, Germany, Dr. Peter Montgomery of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Jon Montgomery of Bartlett, Illinois; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (and one on the way). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Bruce Montgomery, and her elder sister, Priscilla Baumheckel.
